Val Thorens in France hosted the final of the FIS Ski Cross World Cup.

In the women's event, Marielle Thompson secured victory to move her to third in the overall freestyle standings.

The Canadian got off the line first and led the whole way.

Fellow Canadian and teammate Georgia Simmerling pushed her hard however and the race went down to the wire.

It ended in a thrilling photo finish - Thompson came out on top thanks to the fingertip of her glove.

Simmerling had to settle for second.

France's Alizee Baron secured the final podium place.

Andreas Schauer of Germany claimed the men's ski-cross final.

Despite a slow start Schauer fought back to go clear at the front of the pack and secure a convincing win.

The result puts him into joint-fourth in the overall freestyle standings.

France's Jean-Frederic Chapuis took second place, while Johannes Rohrweck of Austria was third.
