Last month Naznin Akter Happy lodged a case against Hossain under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

The 19 year-old film actress accused the cricketer of luring her into an extramarital affair with false promises of marriage.

Under Bangladeshi law, anyone who makes what is considered a "false" marriage proposal is liable to criminal prosecution.

Hossain surrendered before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka and pleaded for bail.

However, magistrate Muhammad Anwar Sadat passed an order which put the player behind bars.
