As many mourn the taking down of Christmas trees & decorations, the Germans have managed to put a spin on the occasion

While many in the UK search for a way to dispose of their Christmas trees, the Germans have made a game out of the process.

The Annual Christmas Tree Throwing World Championships.

It all took place in the small southern German town of Weidenthal on Sunday (4th January) and is known locally as 'knutfest'.

There are three disciplines in the World Championships - the Weitwurf (javelin-style), Hochwurf (high jump-style), attempted by old and young.

    And lastly, the Hammerwurf (hammer-style).

The overall winner was Hubert Bielenbach - the man in the centre.

Have the Germans, taught us a lesson in how to rid those January blues for good....
