Serena Williams and John Isner have put the USA two-up against Italy in the Hopman Cup on Monday.

The USA faced Italy in Group A of the Hopman Cup on Monday.

And the Perth crowd were treated to two impressive comebacks.

In the women's singles, Serena Williams found herself a set down to Flavia Pennetta after the Italian stormed to a 6-0 lead.

But the younger of the Williams sisters channelled her experience, to claim the second and third sets 6-3, 6-0.

In he men's it was an even tighter affair when John Isner faced Fabio Fognini.

The Italian clinched the first set 7-5, before a reverse score in the second saw Isner level the tie.

Isner then took the third in the tiebreak to hand the USA a 2-0 lead ahead of the doubles.
