Great Britain's Andy Murray and Heather Watson beat Benoit Paire and Alize Cornet 2-1 in their opening Hopman Cup Group B match.

Andy Murray has started his time in Australia with a win at the Hopman Cup. He took the first set of his Group B rubber against France's Benoit Paire 6-2. And in the 11th game of the second set he broke Paire to love before serving out for the match.

Judging by her flags this girl would probably have liked a draw and the sides were level thanks to the ladies singles.

Alize Cornet faced Heather Watson and the Frenchwoman dominated. One of Watson's two winning games in the first set was a break but aside from that she was no match.

Cornet and Jo Wilfried Tsonga won this competition last year and her straight sets win here showed her desire to do it again.

But alongside her 2015 partner, France lost the opening set of the mixed doubles 6-4, Murray was showing his class.

The France pair responded to take the second set 6-2 but a double fault from Paire in the decider handed Murray and Watson the win. They face Poland on Wednesday and the hosts Australia on Friday.
