    The Czech Republic beat Canada 2-1 on the opening day of the Hopman Cup on Sunday (4th January).

    Agnieszka Radwanska and Jerzy Janowicz combined to secure a 3-0 Group B win for Poland over their Australian hosts in the Hopman Cup on Sunday (4 January).

    Script:

    Two of the world's strongest nations clashed on day one of the Hopman Cup.

    Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic surprised World No 7 Eugenie Bouchard of Canada.

    The World No 16 winning 6-0, 6-4 in just 68 minutes.

    It was then down to Adam Pavlasek to finish off the Canadians, although he met a Vasek Pospisil in top form.

    The doubles player showing his ability in the solo format, winning 7-6, 6-2.

    Into the decider rubber and this was again another one sided, straight sets win.

    The Czechs winning this one, with Safarova and Pavlasek taking it 6-4, 6-2.

    Action continued with the hosts Australia taking on Poland.

    The locals didn't get their wish as Agnieska Radwanska sailed past Casey Dellacqua, 6-2, 6-3.

    There was a better start for the Australians in the men's rubber.

    Australia's Number 13, Matthew Ebden, took the first set against Jerzy Janowicz,

    Yet the Pole ranked 185 places above Ebden came back to win in three sets.

    The doubles was reduced to a super set and Poland won that too.

    Action continues on Tuesday with the United States and Great Britain in action.
