  • Intro:

Toni Bou opened the defence of his FIM X-Trial World Championship crown with a resounding victory in the opening round of the new series in Sheffield, England on Saturday (3rd January).

    Script:

The British leg of the X-Trials World Championship took place in Sheffield.

Much of the focus was on title holder Toni Bou.

The Spaniard was up to his usual tricks and turned in a performance that the rest of the field couldn't live with.

The 8-time Champion only picked up a single qualification point deduction and sailed through the final to victory.

Fellow Spaniard, Albert Cabestany was closest to the man out infront.

The Sherco rider podimued the 81st time in his career and still leads the overall standings.

Adam Raga took third place on the podium for his Gas Gas team and sits in second overall.

The top placed Brit was sixth placed Dabill James.

While winner Bou was elated with his perfect day....

    SOUNDBITE: (English), Toni Bou:

"Yeah my feeling is incredible because it is always a difficult start of the race, start of the championship here in Sheffield but I think my rallying today is perfect - only one point in the first lap, only one point in the final. I'm very happy with my bike, with my team and I think it is a perfect day."

With Bou closing in on Cabestany's lead, there's every chance he'll retain his X-Trial title once again.
