Highlights from Euroleague Basketball as the Top 16 gets underway.

Real Madrid got off to a strong start in Euroleague's Top 16 Group E by coming from behind to beat Crvena Zvezda Telekom Belgrade 72-79 in Serbia on Friday.

The Spaniard's group rivals Alba Berlin also made a winning start but Real won't mind as it was Barcelona who were defeated 80-70 in the German capital.

Meanwhile in Group F it was friends reunited as Dimitris Itoudis's CSKA Moscow sank Zeljko Obradovic's Fenerbahce 81-84 after overtime; the first Euroleague clash between the former assistant and head coach of Panathinaikos respectively.

There was some joy for Turkish basketball fans though. Anadolu Efes Istanbul edged Laboral Kutxa Vitoria 72-62 in the Spanish Basque Country.

Nizhny Novgorod's match against EA7 Emporio Armani Milan of Italy may be have been their maiden Top 16 match but you wouldn't have guessed; the Russians recorded a resounding 79-59 success.

Last up is Olympiacos Piraeus, who held off Unicaja Malaga 61-69 in Spain.
