Wins for Andy Murray and Wawrinka on day one of Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi on Thursday (1st January).

The start of the men's tennis season once again came to Abu Dhabi on New Year's Day.

The British Number 1, Andy Murray came through a tough opening set against Feliciano Lopez, taking it on a tiebreak.

Yet the Spaniard hit back in the second set. The set going on serve until the very last game, where Lopez found the break at the net to take the set,

Murray got off to the perfect start in the decider - finding the break in the first game - and the World No 6 closed out the match went Lopez went long.

In Thursday's second game, Stan Wawrinka saw off another Spaniard in Nicolas Almagro with a straight-sets victory in just over an hour.

Wawrinka dropping just five games on his way to a 6-3, 6-2 victory.

The Swiss World No 4 now faces a last-four clash with world number one and defending champion Novak Djokovic.

While Murray faces Rafael Nadal in the other semi-final.
