'Watson shaken after bouncer blow'

Thursday, December 25 2014 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Australia batsman David Warner discusses Shane Watson's helmet being struck by a bouncer during training for the Boxing Day Test with India. Watson was on the field when Australian Phillip Hughes died last month after he was struck on the neck by a ball during a domestic match.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE (English): David Warner, Australian batsman:

"Probably shook him up a lot more than he would have anticipated (Watson hit on the head by a bouncer during training). He was close to Hughsy (Phil Hughes) and the was one of those guys on the field as well so it brought it back a bit of a memory for him but he got back on the horse and trained again today which is fantastic."

SOUNDBITE (English): David Warner, Australian batsman:

"For their sake (India) I think that they would hope so that they don't (sledge). For us it's about getting in that contest and that's what we're like. I like to go at them to try and get them to bite back at me when I go out there and bat and at the moment it's working. We saw the other day they went at Mitchell Johnson which is probably a silly mistake to make and it back fired on them."

SOUNDBITE (English): David Warner, Australian batsman:

"The aim for us when we're trying to, it's not really sledging it's more banter and you talk between yourselves and just to try and get a reaction from the batsman and you know you're in their head and you know some players they don't say anything at all but then when they do you know they're actually listening to you so that's what we talk about when we are out there."
