Racing Metro held on to stage a narrow 18-14 victory at home against Ospreys in Pool 5 of the European Rugby Champions Cup on Saturday.
The first points of the game came through a penalty. Johan Goosen had no trouble converting the shot after Rhys Webb picked up a yellow card for a late and high tackle.
The hosts claimed the first try as well. Juan Imhoff crossed in Antonie Claassen's pass, and Goosen's later conversion made it 10-0.
Osprey were slowly losing their momentum. Racing took advantage of lost possession, and it was Goosen again who cleverly dodged all tackles coming his way before allowing Teddy Thomas to score.
Racing's Maxime Machenaud was sent to the sin bin after a knock on that denied Osprey a try scoring opportunity after the break.
This would cost them points as well. Webb dummied to open a gap in the Racing defensive line, and then stormed through to give Osprey their much-needed try. Dan Biggar's conversion narrowed the gap to 15-7.
Osprey fired more. Ashley Beck's cross-field kick met Eli Walker, who dodged 3 tacklers to score.
But Racing sealed the victory at the last second. Goosen slotted in a penalty in a result that saw Racing drop to 2nd place.
