SOUNDBITE: (English) Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers Quarterback:
Q: Can you take us through what happened? You're driving and what?
"Well I was driving and as I was approaching the car he kind of came out and, you know, slowly. So with me, you know, seeing him come out slowly I proceeded to, you know, slow up. Then when he at least stops slowly enough for me to pass, that's when I tried to pass, so when I was getting closer he started to speed up and when he started to speed up I was at a decision where if I pull on my brakes, I'm going to hit him, you know, because the speed I was going I couldn't stop, it was that close to each other. And when I passed him I figured that I was good to go, then he just clipped the back of my truck and, you know, the rest is, you know, somebody having their good hands on me."
Q: What do you remember? Do you remember the whole thing when the truck flipped and ... ?
"Oh yeah, yeah I remember, I was aware throughout the whole thing and the one thing that I just remember is that, you know, I really couldn't talk afterwards, because it was such a shock. You know I got myself out the truck and I couldn't stop smiling and it was like, you know, in my book, one plus one is always going to equal two. Right? And I'm looking at this truck and I'm looking at this accident and I'm like, 'Dude, one plus one ain't equalling two because I'm looking at this truck and I'm like, man, somebody is supposed to be dead.' And you know I just can't stop smiling because it's like God has his hands on me man, I'm on somebody's fantasy league, you know, and I think it's the man upstairs so it's great to walk away from something like that and my adrenaline was pumping so much I really didn't, you know, I wasn't feeling anything in my body at the time but as everything starting calming down I kept feeling my back and that's pretty much what happened.
