The International Olympic Committee has convened in Monaco to discuss the future of the movement.

Forty recommendations will be considered to set out a strategic road map for the Olympics.

The wide-ranging proposals include strengthening doping controls and reforming the bidding process.

One of the first rules passed will make it easier and cheaper for host city hopefuls.

IOC members have agreed to allow the Olympics to be staged in more than one city or even in different countries.

This is despite concerns the changes could damage the atmosphere of the event.

The IOC is eager to avoid a repeat of the 2022 Winter Games campaign where four of the six candidates dropped out mid-race over financial concerns, denting the reputation of the Games as a lucrative project.
