  • Intro:

Reaction from delegates at the 127th IOC session in Monaco on Monday (8th December), as they began voting on a wide range of reforms to the Olympic movement.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE: Dr. Michael Vesper, German Olympic Sports Confederation

"I think it is a debate on the real important issues. It is very important just for an NOC in Europe that we get more transparency, that we get more sustainability into the bidding procedure, that we get more flexibility into the bidding procedure."

SOUNDBITE: Camiel Eurlings, Netherlands Olympic Committee member

"The good thing about the current proposal to offer some flexibility is that a hosting city can introduce some extra events specifically for those Games. So for instance, enable Japan, Tokyo to introduce for the Tokyo Games baseball as an extra sports, as an extra event. Which is good in two directions - it is good because it will create extra enthusiasm given the fact that baseball is such a popular sport in Japan but secondly also for baseball it will create a beautiful platform to show the world that it has value to be present at such an event like the Olympic Games. So it could boost the chances for that sport in the further future to perhaps be reintroduced as an Olympic sport."
