Emu interrupts Challenge Bahrain

Tuesday, December 09 2014 by SNTV
  • Intro:

An Emu ran between runners at the Challenge Bahrain event on Sunday. The world's biggest half-Iron distance purse was won by Germany's Michael Raelert and Denmark's Helle Frederiksen.

    Script:

The biggest prize purse on earth attracted some of the best Triathletes in the world and the odd rogue runner to the Bahrain Challenge.

After an explosive start to the men's race in the water it became a battle between two Germans on the bikes. Andreas Dreitz and Micheal Raelert.

Dreitz led after they ditched their cycles but Raelert passed him running for the finish. Australia's Tim Reed would be the best of the rest. But Raelert crossed the line first to win with ease...

Britain's Jodie Swallow was leading the women's race but she was overtaken by Helle Frederiksen on the run. The Dane was clearly delighted with her performance.

SOUNDBITE (English): Helle Frederiksen, Challenge Bahrain women's champion:

"So to put it all together out there, like I haven't done a half-distance where it has really come together for me - I have always like faded or something like that. But today - it was tough but I did it."

You imagine she'll also be quite happy to be 100,000 dollars richer.
