Harlequins edged a tight Pool 2 encounter over triple European champions Leinster at the Stoop on Sunday.

Both sides went into the contest with two wins from two.

Ian Madigan gave Leinster a 3-0 lead, but former All Black Nick Evans levelled the scores before going off injured.

His replacement, Tim Swiel, took over the kicking duties and landed two further penalties before half-time, with Madigan matching him as they went into the break level at 9-9.

Madigan edged Leinster back in front in the 48th minute, however, that would be the last time the Irish side led.

The evergreen former England number eight Nick Easter, showed the advancing years haven't affected his dexterity.

He was superb in stretching over the line for the game's opening try.

Leinster pushed for a try themselves.

Rob Kearney tried to link up with Zane Kirchner, but found Aseili Tikoirotuma instead and the Fijian wing raced away on the intercept to make it 21-12.

Madigan again kept the scoreboard ticking over for Leinster with two more penalties.

A clever drop goal from Danny Care in the 75th minute made it 24-18 and that's how it finished.

Harlequins collected the win, however, Leinster did earn what could prove to be a vital losing bonus point.
