Canada's Corey Gallagher was the men's winner at the inaugural Flotrack Beer Mile World Championships on Wednesday in Texas. Elizabeth Herndon captured the women's race in a new world record time of 6 minutes, 17.76 seconds.

You heard the man, yes, the 'beer drinking has begun'.To most people going for a beer run means popping down the local supermarket, but this is the first ever Beer Mile World Championship, which means chugging a beer between all-out sprints.
Competitors have to complete four quarter mile laps where they down a drink at the start of each lap for a total of four beers. Anyone who loses their lunch before the end of the race is rewarded with an additional penalty lap.

It was probably the greatest atmosphere and running event I've probably ever been at. Like this was without a doubt the best thing I've been a part of."The elite men's champion Corey Gallagher of Canada delighted with his win in front of the excited crowd here in Austin, Texas.
He won in a time of 5:00.23 (5 minutes, 0 point 23 seconds).
Elizabeth Herndon captured the elite women's title in a new world record time, 6 minutes, 17.76 seconds.
The winners earned (U.S.) $2,500 apiece and Herndon pocketed an extra $2,500 bonus for breaking the women's unofficial world record.
