New Zealand beat China at the Hockey Champions Trophy

    New Zealand topped Pool A from the Netherlands at the Women's Hockey Champions Trophy in Mendoza on Tuesday (2 December) after the Black Sticks beat China 2-0, before the Dutch defeated Japan 1-0.

    Script:

    New Zealand recorded their second win of the 2014 FIH Women's Champions Trophy.

    They beat China 2-0 in the Argentine city of Mendoza.

    Black Sticks captain Anita Punt scored in the 18th minute to put her side one up from a penalty corner.

    She then scored again from another penalty corner in the 24th minute to double her side's advantage.

    Elsewhere in pool A, the Netherlands defeated Japan in the final fixture of the group.

    Maartje Paumen netted the only goal in the 60th minute to help her side to a 1-0 victory.

    It all meant that New Zealand finished on top of the pool, a shade ahead of the Dutch who also had seven points.

    The Black Sticks will play England in the quarter-finals.

    Germany will be the Netherlands' last eight opponents.
