Cricket Australia thanks public following Hughes death

    Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland and Australian Cricketers' Association chief Alastair Nicholson addressed the media at Sydney Airport on Tuesday before departing for Macksville to attend the funeral of Phillip Hughes the following day.

    With Australia still morning the death of Phillip Hughes and a rescheduled test series against India - Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland has called for understanding:

    SOUNDBITE (English) James Sutherland, Cricket Australia chief executive:

    "The schedule will inconvenience a lot of people. We understand that. But we very much hope that in light of these extraordinary circumstances, that everyone can see the big picture."

    Addressing media at Sydney Airport, where he left to attend Hughes's funeral on Wednesday Sutherland said it was up to individual players and medical professionals to decide on who should play in the upcoming test:

    SOUNDBITE (English) James Sutherland, Cricket Australia chief executive:

    Yeah, look, absolutely up to the individual. And any player that is not comfortable or doesn't feel right, there is medical advice to suggest that they're is not quite right, then we will obviously understand that, and I am sure the broader public will understand that as well."

    The series, initially scheduled to start Thursday in Brisbane, will instead open in Adelaide on 9th December.
    Australian Cricketers' Association chief Alastair Nicholson expressed gratitude at the global support and understanding

    SOUNDBITE (English) Alastair Nicholson, Australian Cricketers' Association chief:

    "We're tremendously grateful for the outpouring of grief globally and in Australia, and their understanding and support though this traumatic time, for them as players and then also as individuals."

    The funeral for twenty-five year-old Hughes who died while batting in a match last Thursday takes place in Macksville on Wednesday.
