American Jordan Spieth fires a final-round 63 to win the Australian Open, as Rory McIlroy finishes 15 shots back.

    Script:

It was overcast in Sydney for the final round of the Australian Open and clouds gathered over home favourite Adam Scott.

The world number three was one shot off the lead overnight but the 34-year-old finished the tournament fifth on four under, nine shots off top spot.

There was no silver lining for defending champion Rory McIlroy either. The Northern Irishman finished joint 15th at two-over 286, 15 strokes behind first place.

Australia's Rod Pampling, who was one shot off the third-round lead, finished second on seven under.

American rising star Jordan Spieth fired a course-record 63 to win the competition by six shots:

SOUNDBITE: (English) Jordan Spieth, 2014 Australian Open Champion (on winning with a final round 63):

"Oh, it's the best round I've ever played. There is no doubt. With these conditions, the golf course is very difficult... being able to sort of spread out form the field, that was a pretty awesome experience."

The 21-year-old Texan's second tournament win earns him a cheque for $1.06 million.
