Milton Keynes hosted Britain's first ever Cyclo-Cross World Cup event, a major coup for the local off-road cycling scene.

    Script:

It may not be the Tour de France, but the stakes are just as high for these riders.

This, round three of the Cyclo-Cross World Cup.

It's the first time such an event has been held on British soil.

A major coup for hosts - Milton Keynes.

The men's race was hotly contested.

Belgian Kevin Pauwels fought out the lead with his fellow countryman Klaas Vantornout in the muddy conditions.

It meant at times they along with other riders had to carry their bikes.

The pair were neck and neck on the final lap.

Vantornout attempted a late charge toward the line, but Pauwels out-kicked him to take the win and extend his lead at the top of the World Cup leaderboard.

The women's race followed a similar track.

Sanne Cant and Katherine Compton were the duo battling for the lead despite the slippery conditions.

Compton looked to be out in front toward the end, but somehow Cant found the energy in the final sprint to edge ahead as they crossed the line.

Britain's Nikki Harris came in third, to round out an historic day for the sport in her country.
