Roger Federer told the thousands of fans gathered in Lausanne that it had been the craziest 24 hours of his career. He beat Richard Gasquet to seal Switzerland's 3-1 win against France in the final in Lille over the weekend.
This now means Federer has won all there is to win in tennis and sits alongside 17 Grand Slam titles, six ATP year end crowns, 23 masters series wins and an Olympic gold medal, not a bad collection.
Federer put aside a back injury, an opening match defeat to Gael Monfils and a row at the ATP Tour Finals in London with Stan Wawrinka. That had threatened to overshadow preparations but the pair played together to win the doubles on Saturday.
It rounds off a great year for Wawrinka, who also won the Australian Open, he said winning the Davis Cup was like a child's dream come true.
This is the first time Switzerland has won the Cup in the competition's 114 year history, after a wait that long, expect some long nights of celebration.
