Home favourite Nick Cullen won the Australian Masters by a shot at Metropolitan Golf Club in Melbourne.

The 30-year-old was third at start of play but this birdie at the 11th hole sent him on his way to victory.

Defending champion Adam Scott failed to become the first player to complete a hat-trick of back-to-back wins in the competition. The Australian recorded a four-under-par final round of 68.

Scott ended the Australian Masters in a tie for second at eight-under with Josh Younger and James Nitties.

Australian Younger sank this birdie on the last...

While fellow Aussie Nitties missed this birdie on the 18th and the chance to move joint-first.

Cullen said that this superb bunker shot at the final hole was the best of his career:

SOUNDBITE: (English) Nick Cullen, 2014 Australian Masters Champion (on his pressure bunker shot on eighteen)

"That's probably the best shot of my life... I really didn't put myself in a good spot, but to get out of it like that, it's just a great feeling."

Nevermind the best shot of his golfing life, this is the best win of Cullen's career.
