A superb second half from Ajax secured the Dutch champions all three points when they faced Heerenveen at the Amsterdam ArenA on Saturday.

The first half saw Heerenveen in the ascendancy, a stunning acrobatic strike from Luciano Slagveer giving the visitors an 18th-minute lead.

But he went from hero to villain just before the half-time whistle when he received a second yellow card for shirt pulling, earning him a red from the referee.

Heerenveen manager Dwight Lodeweges was also banished to the stands after making clear his displeasure.

Slagveer's red card proved to be a game changer for Ajax - who until that point had struggled to create any real chances.

Twenty minutes into the second half, Ajax were gifted an equaliser when Daley Sinkgraven turned the ball into his own net from Lucas Andersen's cross into the box.

Anwar El Ghazi then added to Ajax's tally, with a volley in the 72nd minute - much to the relief of manager Frank de Boer.

Less than a minute later, Ricardo Krishna pounced on an error at the back from Pele van Anholt and finished into the net to hand the home side a 3-1 lead.

Ajax sealed their win when Kolbeinn Sigthorsson was brought down in the box by Kenny Otigba and a penalty given.

Arkadiusz Milik stepped up to take the spot kick and buried his strike past the goalkeeper - 4-1 to Ajax.
