Brazilian giants restrict media as club faces crisis on and off the field

Brazilian giants Botafogo effectively banned media from training on Thursday as the club face mounting pressure over their finances and the possibility of relegation.

    Script:

This is as close as the media got to Botafogo's training session on Thursday.

A five minute window, at the end of practice, with only reserve players and goalkeepers in attendance.

It's a result of the Brazilian giant's disastrous situation.

A home defeat to Figueirense on Wednesday has left them in relegation territory.

And they're in financial trouble - players haven't been paid in three months - neither they nor staff were willing to speak following the session.

Instead it was left to Jobson, who was recovering in physiotherapy, to answer questions.

He has a love-hate relationship with fans.

    SOUNDBITE Jobson, Botafogo striker

"The club has its problems before I came back here. Botafogo is full of problems before I returned. Now they want to blame me (for the problems) because I lost a penalty kick? It's unfair. Let's live the reality and speak the truth. I feel sad because I had a chance to score."

It would've put Botafogo ahead against Figueirense.

Instead they now have to rely on a win this weekend and other results to go their way to stay in the top flight.
