Melbourne Victory beat Brisbane Roar 1-0 in Melbourne on Friday (21 November) in the A-League thanks to an own-goal by defender Jade North.

    Script:

In front of a passionate home crowd, Melbourne Victory took on A-League strugglers Brisbane Roar at Etihad Stadium on Friday.

A win for Victory would put them briefly at the top of the table.

And on the half hour mark they almost opened the scoring through Leigh Broxham's header.

Just before the break, another header almost put Victory in the lead, except it came off defender Daniel Bowles.

It's last thing the Roar needed as they searched for only their second win of the season.

In the 76th minute Victory finally went ahead.

Former Roar striker Besart Berisha lifted to meet Ben Khalfallah's free-kick perfectly.

But it was Roar defender Jade North who ended up knocking it into his own net.

Khalfallah then had a great opportunity to seal the match for Victory.

Goalkeeper Mathew Acton was up to the one-on-one challenge however and easily saved the shot to keep the score at 1-nil.
