"We do need to get back to winning ways for lots of reasons. Certainly, in terms of reigniting the confidence within our side, that's always going to be an important factor of how we go about the game as well."

"I don't think necessarily that we've played too badly. We've not been ruthless enough. I suppose when you're not scoring goals it always makes it difficult. But as always, it's there for us to go out and prove to ourselves and to everybody else that we are a good side."

"You take out the Southampton game (in the Premier League, which Sunderland lost 8-0) and they're a very well organised team. On the back of the successes of part of last season, in terms of their ability to endure what was a very tough experience for them (avoiding relegation which they) come through. They've got some quality players, there's no doubt about that. And I think they are a side who possibly people underestimate the qualities that they have."
