Ogier finishes Championship in style

  • Intro:

World Champion Sebastien Ogier ends 2014 season on a high after taking victory at the World Rally Championship's finale - the Wales Rally GB - on Sunday (16th November).

    Script:

After clinching his second consecutive World Rally Championship title in 2014, Sebastien Ogier added another win to his memorable year - at the season-ending Wales Rally on Sunday.

The French driver mastered the muddy forest tracks to lead the three-day event from start-to-finish, measuring his pace through the final two legs to win by 37.6-seconds.

That was something of a foregone conclusion, back in the pack though there was a real battle for second.

Mikko Hirvonen started with just a 3.4 second lead over Kris Meeke.

Yet the Northern Irishman Meeke veered off track and as a result dropped into sixth in the overall classifications, quite a blow for him & too his Toyota car.

That, allowed Hirvonen to claim an emotional second place on his last race before retiring.

With Meeke out of the race, it was just third place left to be resolved.

That went to Mads Ostberg, who outpaced Belgian Thierry Neuville, which in turn secured second for Citroen in the manufacturers championship.
