"I now have the great pleasure in inviting his excellency General Surayuth, the representative of His Majesty the King of the Kingdom of Thailand to declare the fourth Asian Beach Game in Phuket open."

1200 performers took part to declare their intention to test their mettle in unique events such as jetskiing, woodballing, windsurfing and footvolley.

The opening ceremony culminated with the traditional flame lighting ceremony.

Which was done in a rather unorthodox and high-tech way.

The event will run through to the 23rd of November.
