Ian Poulter got things moving with a monster putt for eagle at the 13th having started at the tenth.

The Englishman appeared to be recovering something like his best form after an injury plagued year as he carded an eight under par 64. He's in second place.

The man to catch though is Miguel Angel Jimenez, who managed seven birdies and an eagle in a sparkling round of 63.

The 50-year old Spaniard is one shot clear of Poulter at nine under par.
