Murray claims important win over Raonic

  • Intro:

Britain's Andy Murray beat Milos Raonic of Canada 6-3 7-5 at the ATP World Tour Finals at the O2 Arena in London on Tuesday (11th November) to keep alive his hopes of reaching the semi-finals.

    Script:

Andy Murray entered the court at the 02 Arena for his second ATP World Tour Finals match looking to keep his hopes of reaching the semi-finals of the
tournament alive, knowing that he had to match Roger Federer's earlier win against Kei Nishikori earlier to avoid elimination.

The Scot knew he had to raise his game significantly from his poor performance against Nishikori if he wanted to beat a man he had lost to in three of their four previous meetings.

And there was no doubt this performance was better from Murray, even if he was significantly helped by Raonic's forehand having a major off day - the
Canadian making 23 unforced errors off his favoured wing alone.

In the first set Murray held firm after seeing Raonic save two set points but took the third; winning the first set 6-3.

A bit of Murray magic with a backhand pass he had no right to make set up a timely break to leave him serving for the match in the second.

And, although Raonic saved one match point, he overcooked a return on the second and is still looking for his first victory of the tournament, losing this one 6-3, 7-5.

The victory for Murray means all scenarios in Group B are still possible heading into the final round of matches.
