The World's best badminton player has been provisionally suspended for doping. The Badminton World Federation said it had banned Malaysia's Lee Chong Wei due to an adverse analytical finding of a sample taken at the World Championships.

There will now be a hearing to determine whether the world number one was guilty of doping.

If he is, the 32-year-old could be banned for two years. He would also lose the silver medal he won at the August Championship in Copenhagen. It was there where he tested positive for the banned anti-inflammatory dexamethasone.

A b-sample of his urine also came back positive after a test in Norway witnessed by Lee.

He has since taken to social media to defend himself, he said "I never cheated nor will I ever rely on banned substances."

"There are so many unanswered questions and I hope to clear my name soon."

A date is yet to be set for the hearing, which could rule him out of realistically his last chance to win Olympic gold in Rio,
