Hansen not expecting England WC clash

  • Intro:

Reaction from Steve Hansen after New Zealand defeated England 24-21 at Twickenham on Saturday (8 November).

    Script:

SOUNDBITE (English) Steve Hansen, New Zealand head coach:(on what changed in the second half)

"The thing that changed was that we got a wee bit urgent. In that first half, England were probably half a click in front of us the whole time and showed more desperation and urgency to get to places. We talked about it in the changing rooms, particularly up front, that we needed to get urgent and we needed to get desperate in the last five minutes. So once we started to get to the point where we were controlling the momentum of the game then you can control what happens in those moments and we were fortunate enough to score points when we were doing that."

SOUNDBITE (English) Steve Hansen, New Zealand head coach: (on the 2015 World Cup)

"Today's about winning... today. And whatever you get out of that, which is a lot of pleasure I should imagine... and disappointment if you lose, that's what happens in top sport. But there's no psychological advantage because World Cups have shown us time and time again prior history goes out the door. We beat France numerous times by a lot of points but we lost to them in 2007. We're not even assuming we're going to play England. We've just got a round robin and then hopefully we qualify, either first or second."
