ICC board members Dave Richardson and former Indian bowler, Anil Kumble, speak about the ICC 2014 awards.

Mitchell Johnson, Kumar Sangakkara and Angelo Mathews have been shortlisted for two of the top International Cricket Council Annual awards in 2014.

SOUNDBITE (English) Dave Richardson, ICC Chief Executive:

"The best thing about this is it will always encourage debate and argument as to whether the selectors have done a decent job or not. Anil (Kumble) you guys have done a good job. When you see some of the names might be easily surprising. But when you look at the stats behind what they have achieved over that performance period, its quite staggering. I mean I didn't realise that Angelo Mathews had done nearly half has he really actually has done. So I think sometimes stat, sometimes lie. In this case most of them would, they would back up the selections made in the most persons who have been nominated in the shortlist."

SOUNDBITE (English) Anil Kumble, Chairman, ICC Cricket Committee:

"It is never easy, there will always be a debate, there will always be a..within your own teams if you pick a eleven from the fifteen, it's a challenge. There will be debates. So this will only encourage a healthy debate. I think within the circumstances that we have had it is never easy to pick a team over a year, i think we have done a pretty decent job".
