Dog dancing in Germany

Wednesday, November 05 2014 by SNTV
  • Intro:

The best of the action from the winners and howlers at the International Dog Dancing Tournament in Freiburg, Germany.

    Script:

It's not often that someone makes a dog's dinner of something and wins but then not many competitions are like the International Dog Dancing Tournament.

The judges were impressed by Dinner For One by Doris Mensch from Switzerland but not so much with this... oh dear.

SOUNDBITE (English) Axel Weber, Event Organiser

"Dog dancing is a sport for dogs that you can do with every dog with all ages. Everybody can do this. You can do this at home. You can do this while you are walking. Everywhere."

Even perhaps on the sea... For some dogs performing comes naturally but for others it's all a bit too much.

SOUNDBITE (English) Claudia Moser, Jury member

"You start off teaching them the different tricks and then you reward them for doing those tricks. And then you start putting those tricks into sequences and then you try to match it with the music."

And that ranges from the Beach Boys... to Phil Collins. It's an eclectic mix for some rather eccentric people.
