  • Intro:

Germany's Marcel Siem won the BMW Masters on the first hole of a three-way play-off in Shanghai, China on Sunday (2nd November).

    Script:

A change in weather conditions made scoring much tougher for the final round of the BMW Masters at Lake Malaren Golf Club in Shanghai on Sunday.

Overnight leader Alexander Levy struggled more than most, and was five-over-par for the day heading to the 18th hole.

Levy's difficulties meant Ross Fisher had a birdie opportunity at the 18th, a putt that would have ultimately won him the title, but the Englishman's effort stopped short.

Fisher, who headed into Sunday 11 shots off the lead, carded the round of the day - a five-under-par 67 - and took the clubhouse lead on 16-under.

Marcel Siem also squandered a chance to win the tournament at the 18th, missing a six-foot par putt to finish alongside Fisher on 16-under.

Frenchman Levy ended the day with the last of his six bogeys, he added a double-bogey to that, and finished six-over for the day, 16-under for the tournament.

Fisher, Siem and Levy then went back to the tee box at the 18th hole to start a sudden death play-off.

Siem's approach ended up just off the green, but the German produced a sublime chip-in to birdie the hole.

Fisher and Levy were unable to match the effort, handing Siem the victory.

The 34-year-old triumphing despite this being only his second top ten finish of the season.
