Park triumphs in Taiwan

  • Intro:

Six days after regaining her world number one spot, Inbee Park of South Korea consolidated her position by winning the LPGA Taiwan Championship by two strokes on Sunday (2nd November).

    Script:

Wind and rain lashed the Miramar golf and country club ahead of the final round of the LPGA Taiwan Championship on Sunday.

Despite the tough conditions, Azahara Munoz played a fabulous approach shot on the tenth hole to set up a birdie.

The Spaniard carded a three-under-par 69 to end on 16-under and claim outright fourth spot.

Seventeen-year-old Lydia Ko of New Zealand saved her best for the last - as she chipped in on the ninth for birdie.

Ko fired a blemish-free six-under 66 - the best round of the day - to finish in third place at 17-under.

The real battle was being fought at the top between overnight leader Inbee Park, who only regained the world number one spot six days ago, and number two Stacy Lewis.

Park seemed to be slipping after hitting her approach at the ninth hole into water.

The South Korean carded her first bogey of the day at the previous hole and looked at a double when her fourth shot ended up off the green.

But Park played a remarkable chip in from the fringe to walk off with a bogey and restrict the damage.

Stacy Lewis maintained the pressure with three birdies in the first three holes, but bogeyed the fifth and 13th holes.

Lewis then cut the lead to just one shot at the 16th hole by sinking a superb twenty-foot birdie putt.

Park responded brilliantly though, hitting a wonderful tee shot at the par-three 17th hole to set up a birdie.

She would knock that in to move two shots clear before tapping in for a par at the 18th to complete a two-shot win.
