    Script:

With the hope of giving their star player David Villa a victorious send off, Melbourne City played host to Adelaide United in the A-League on Friday.

Melbourne seemed well on track to gift that to the former Barcelona forward as they took the lead in the eighth minute.

Ex Chelsea man, Damien Duff's corner was met by Patrick Kisnorbo, who read the flight perfectly, and found the top corner.

Adelaide drew level five minutes after the half hour mark when Tarek Elrich sent a pinpoint cross into the area where Bruce Djite headed home.

Villa got into the action when he was played through on the near flank.

Villa cut into the area and fired a low shot that was kept out by Adelaide goalkeeper Eugen Galekovic.

After the break, Villa yet again showed his class when he cut in from the far side, entered the area and took a shot that was blocked again by Galekovic.

The ball fell to David Williams, but the substitute's effort went over the crossbar.

Melbourne gave away a sloppy penalty in the 78th minute.

A pass the defense really should have dealt with was picked up by Bruce Kamau, he took a touch to round goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne and was brought down.

A clear penalty and the referee had no hesitation in awarding it.

Argentine Marcelo Carrusca stepped up and made no mistake from the spot to make it 2-1.

The full time whistle blew at 2-1 and Villa suffered a defeat in his final match for Melbourne.
