Garbine Muguruza continued to topple the high seeds at the Tournament of Champions in Sofia as she defeated number three seed Flavia Pennetta 0-6, 6-1, 6-1 for her second win.

A day after completing an upset of Ekaterina Makarova, Muguruza looked out of her depth in the first set failing to win a single game.

But the Spaniard fought back, giving up just two games to Pennetta the rest of the way through.

Up next for Muguruza is Alize Cornet while Pennetta will face Makarova.

Elsewhere, sixth seed Alize Cornet kept her semifinal hopes alive with an upset win of Ekaterina Makarova in their first ever meeting.

Having lost her opener to Flavia Pennetta, Cornet needed a win against the top seed.

After being broken in the first game, the Frenchwoman dominated from there winning the next six straight games in a 6-1, 6-4 success.
