'Balotelli's extra training paid off'

Thursday, October 30 2014 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Reaction after Mario Balotelli inspires a stirring comeback as Liverpool score twice in the final few minutes to beat Swansea City and reach the League Cup last eight. Swans centre-back Federico Fernández was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Philippe Coutinho in the 92nd minute.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE: (English) Colin Pascoe, Liverpool assistant manager:

(Q: Is movement in the box one of the things you've been working on with Mario Balotelli, is that what we saw with the goal?)

"Yeah it's great for Mario, he wants to work all the time, that's the way he is. He is still a young lad, a tremendous talent and that's where you want to work on. You know he wants to work on his movement, finishing and after every session he wants to do that. So, you know, for himself it was great for him to get the goal."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Colin Pascoe, Liverpool assistant manager:

(Q: Did you feel the game was getting away from you at any point?)

"No, not at all, I mean the way we played we were always going to create a chance. I thought we were unfortunate to be honest to be 1-0 down, I thought the way we played is possibly the best we've played all season, you know, with the character of the lads to keep going and to get the win in the end."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Garry Monk, Swansea City manager:

(on whether he will appeal Federico Fernandez' red card)

"Well I think if everyone has sense and common sense and if you look at the actual situation, I've watched it about thirty times there to make sure I was clear when I came to see you guys. Hopefully he'll rescind that, he's a sensible guy, he's a good ref, I thought he refereed well enough tonight and hopefully he'll rescind that card."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Garry Monk, Swansea City manager:

"Those of you that know me, I'm not here to have a go at ref's decisions and everything like this, but you know these decisions, I think I am being proven week after week that I am not talking rubbish, I'm talking sense. So always talk sense, I speak openly and honestly. Last week was very emotional, sorry against Stoke it was an emotional one, tonight of course I am emotional, but what's the point, what's the point? It's not getting me anywhere, so it's not getting my team anywhere, it's not getting the players anywhere. So like I said, we'll just do it the hard way."
