    There were wins for Santiago Giraldo, Sam Querrey and Dominic Thiem in the first round of the Paris Masters.

    Santiago Giraldo of Colombia defeated Russia's Mikhail Youzhny in the first round of the Paris Masters.

    The world number 31 won 6-2 6-4 in 64 minutes to set up a second-round clash against 14th seed Kevin Anderson of South Africa.

    American qualifier Sam Querrey also reached the second round after he overcame by beating Jerzy Janowicz.

    World number 38 Querrey sealed a 6-7 6-2 6-4 success and his reward is a tie with 12th seed Feliciano Lopez of Spain.

    And finally to Austria's Dominic Thiem, who recovered from a second set wobble to beat Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine.

    21-year-old Thiem is the youngest player in the world top 50 and he ran out 6-2 4-6 6-0 victor.
