Serena Williams managed to get revenge for one of the heaviest defeats of her professional career thusfar, by beating Simona Halep to win the WTA Finals on Sunday.The past week had been a whirlwind of emotions and drama for the world number one, but ended in triumph as Williams beat the Romanian 6-3 6-0 to win her fifth finals prize in Singapore.

It was Halep who led the match in the first sets, after breaking Williams's serve in the third game. She went on to lead 40-love in the next game, but fans were not left disappointed as Williams displayed her famed persistance skills by battling back, making the game 2-2.

The following games were a real tug of war, with Halep desperately attempting to grab her breaks and serves back, but Williams's fierce determination shone through, and sealed the opening set 6-3.

The second set was a complete one-man match, as Williams completely dominated over the Romanian. She broke Halep's serves right from the first game onwards, taking advantage of her unfortunate forehand into the net. The world number one continued to break Halep's next two service games, and only conceded seven points.

The match ended 6-0 6-3 in the American's favour, after an incredible forehand volley claimed Williams her third consecutive WTA finals trophy, matching fellow legend Steffi Graf. Simona Halep remains the fourth seed in the WTA rankings.
