In front of their passionate home fans, the Western Sydney Wanderers played host to heavyweights Al Hilal in the first leg of the Asian Champions League final on Saturday.

The Australian side, in their first ever final, upset defending champions Guangzhou Evergrande on the road to the final.

They were looking to continue that rich vein of form against Al Hilal, but it was the Saudi Arabian side who had the better of the chances in a scoreless first half.

The visitors should've broken the deadlock just before the break, but Nassir Alshamrani blasted over the cross bar.

The Wanderers looked more purposeful in the second period and just after the hour mark it paid off.

Antony Golec's floating cross found substitute Tomi Juric, who slid ahead of his marker to complete a brilliant finish.

The goal, an enormous relief for the A-League side, who rode their luck for much of the first half.

The super sub almost scored a second ten minutes later, but his low drive from the edge of the area hit the upright before bouncing back into play.

As the game drew to a close and the victory celebrations began, the Wanderers had some anxious moments in the final stages.

But they held on for the famous win.

They'll now travel to Saudi Arabia for the second leg next week, knowing a victory or a draw will be enough to secure the silverware.
