Swiss champions FC Basel had the chance to leapfrog Zurich at the top of the Super League table on Saturday, when they entertained FC Sion at St. Jakob-Park.

Paulo Sousa's side had already beaten their opponents this season, back in August.

And they looked the better side here early on, Breel Embolo forcing a good save in the 16th minute.

However, Sion would find the opening goal, albeit largely due to clumsy play in the Basel defence.

Behrang Safari the man caught in possession, with Christofi crossing for Moussa Konate who sharply turned to put the away side ahead.

Ivorian striker Giovanni Sio was brought on in the 56th minute and eight minutes later it was he who pulled the Champions level

Luca Zuffi picked out his man from the left and Sio scored his first of the season.

Yoichiro Kakitani was brought on, but the young Japanese international struggled to make an impact.

In the dying minutes, Basel might have stolen all three points - Marcelo Diaz's free kick beat the wall, but Dean kept the score at 1-1.

Basel go level with Zurich at the top of the table on 26 points, while Sion sit in 7th.
