At the Soccerex Americas Forum in Barbados on Tuesday, the president of CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football) said the region "must" host the 2026 World Cup.

In a separate interview, Jeffrey Webb, who is also a FIFA Vice President, addressed the idea of soccer adopting the NFL's 'Rooney Rule' amid suggestions of a lack of diversity in the game.

SOUNDBITE (English) Jeffrey Webb, CONCACAF President:

"In SoccerEx, which is a business forum - football is a business... and I will tell you, 2026 CONCACAF must host the World Cup 2026. (applause) If we go more than 32 years without hosting a World Cup in our region it's an injustice. And as a Confederation we must start examining ourselves in world football. We must stand and we must unite as a region for having 2026 World Cup."

SOUNDBITE (English) Jeffrey Webb, CONCACAF President:

"I think if you look at the landscape of the World Cup and you really, of course, since CONCACAF hosted a World Cup in 1994 various confederations will have hosted it... every other confederation would have hosted it in the last 32 years from 2026, and CONCACAF would not. So definitely I believe that it's time that CONCACAF should have the legitimate right to 2026."

SOUNDBITE (English) Jeffrey Webb, CONCACAF President:

"You know, the 'Rooney Rule' all it does is it gives an opportunity for someone to have an interview, to sit down, to have a cup of coffee or to have a dialogue. It's not necessary to say that you must hire someone or to give someone preferential treatment. It's just a matter of creating that opportunity, that someone has that opportunity. But the Rooney Rule deals with one aspect when it comes to the coaching. The other aspect we must deal with also is look at the club situation, look at national associations standpoint... and then look at the confederations standpoint as far as representation and diversity on those committees as well."
