Rafael Nadal continued his quest for a third indoor career title, with a one-sided victory at the Swiss Indoors in Basel.

The second seed, competing at the tournament for the first time since 2004, swept past qualifier Pierre-Hugues Herbert 6-1, 6-1 in 57 minutes for a place in the quarter-finals, where he will meet wild card Borna Coric.

Nadal hit 15 winners past the world number 120, who had 11 double-faults and committed 30 unforced errors in just his 17th tour-level match.

Nadal's next opponent, Coric was nerveless in recording the biggest win of his fledgling career.

The 17-year-old Croatian, contesting just his 12th tour-level match, defeated sixth seed Ernests Gulbis 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 in one hour and 35 minutes.
