Croatian boxer's sickening attack on referee

Wednesday, October 22 2014 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Croatian boxer Vido Loncar attacks referee after light-heavyweight bout at the European Youth Championships in Zagreb.

    Script:

The end of a boxing match, just like any other at the European Youth Boxing Championships in Zagreb.

The referee steps in to stop Vido Loncar's fight with Algirdas Baniulis of Lithuania - with Loncar deemed unable to continue.

Both fighters returned to their corners, visibly upset with the decision but seemingly calm -
but when the final decision was announced Loncar suddenly attacked.

The referee was hit by a number of punches from Loncar - the Croatian continuing even though the official lay prone on the floor.

Loncar eventually had to be grabbed by his ankles and forcibly removed from the ring.

His opponent chose to leave the ring while the ref took his beating, obviously hurt.

The official was eventually helped up after the ring had been cleared; dazed and in pain.

    A truly terrible assault.
