Intro:

Mattias Ekstroem won the tenth and final round of the DTM season at Hockenheimring on Sunday (October 19).

Marco Wittmann had already claimed the championship title.

Script:

The tenth and final round of the DTM season at Hockenheim.

And some special guests, Formula 1 World Championship leader Lewis Hamilton offering his words of wisdom prior to the race.

And he was joined by a world champion from football, in the shape of Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Bright blue skies offered the pefect setting for the motorsports finale.

Marco Wittman had already claimed the title, yet the Champion started from 13th on the grid.

Matthias Ekstroem made a perfect star from second, taking Audi's Miguel Molina on the first bend.

Molina rapidly slipped from first to fifth. Jamie Green moved in the opposite direction.

Green soon moved past Ekstroem - the latter's choice of standard tyres starting to cost him.

After Mercedes' Daniel Juncadella crashed out into the safety barriers, the race was haulted.

On the right tyres now, Ekstroem powers past Green on the restart.

Rockenfeller too took his chance and surged past Green on the last lap.

That was the way it finished - with three Audis at the top.

But in the drivers championship a BMW driver was on top of the podium.

Marco Wittmann is the DTM Champion 2014 - second and third went, respectively, to Ekstroem and the champion from 2013 Mike Rockenfeller.
