Myanmar defeat Laos 2-1 to top 2014 Suzuki Cup qualification.

Myanmar were up against Laos in the final qualification match for the 2014 Suzuki Cup, a biennial championship of South East Asia.

With both teams having already qualified, the sides were playing for pride.

A lacklustre crowd was rewarded for its presence when Myanmar broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute.

Nanda Lin Kyaw Chit broke the offside trap before striking a nice drive from the edge of the box from the edge of the box to make it 1-0 to the Burmese.

Laos started the second looking to level the scores and had their chance in the 59th minute when the referee awarded them a penalty for Vongchiengkham was brought down.

He then stepped up to take the spot kick but fired it well over the bar.

Myanmar were then awarded a penalty of their own in the 78th minute.

Kyaw Ko Ko found some space in the area and threatened with a nice effort, before brought down in an attempt to recover posession.

Unlike Laos, Kyaw converted Mynamar's penalty, establishing a 2-0 lead in the process.

There was still time for a third penalty, and while the first two appeared clear cut, it is difficult to understand why the referee blew his whistle for the third.

Regardless of the infraction, skipper Ketsada Souksavanh converted from the spot to cut the lead to 2-1.

It proved to be too little too late, Myanmar sealing a 2-1 win over Laos - enough to secure top spot at the Suzuki Cup qualification tournament.

The tournament itself will kick off on November 22nd.
