Australian Hend wins overdue title

  • Intro:

Scott Hend claimed his maiden European Tour title at the Hong Kong Open, after overcoming Angelo Que of the Philippines at the first hole of a play-off on Sunday (19th October).

    Script:

Perfect conditions for the final round of the Hong Kong Open on Sunday.

Ernie Els started the day three shots off the lead, yet was one over for the day going down 14. He found a birdie there and added one more to finish on -1 for the day.

Marcus Fraser was the overnight leader, yet he took a double bogey at the first and was always chasing after that.

Irish youngster, Kevin Phelan finished birdie, birdie, birdie, yet that wasn't enough to put himself in position for the title.

Fraser's early dropped shots allowed Scott Hend and Angelo Que to take advantage. Que knew he needed a birdie at the last to force a play-off with Hend... and the Filipino found it with this approach at the last.

Into the play-off, Que was in trouble at the first giving Hend the putt for the title.

The Australian kept his nerve as he secured his first European Tour victory in 106 appearances.

The win could move him almost 100 places in the World Rankings.
